Xmas events

Long post, but I have a lot to say.

For those who don't know, as I come from scandinavian stock my family celebrates xmas on the 24th. This may seem a bit odd to people, but it makes things remarkably simple when a scando hooks up with an anglo - there is no question of which familt chistmas you go to, because you can go to both. Besides, there is something decidedly decadent about having two chistmases, if you can survive the mountains of food.

Any way, 24th down to my folks house. This was made simpler by my father being coincidentally down in Melbourne and giving Jye and I a lift. Most of the day was spent doing last minute christmasy stuff (cooking, setting up the tree, doing some last minute wrapping) and it was a quite relaxed affair. It's nice to be without the stress.

My father also drew me aside at one point to talk to me about some things he had read here in relation to my brother recieving his medals. We all know how a feel on the matter, so I won't dwell on it too much, but all I will way is this;

"We are the unwilling
led by the unqualified
to do the unnecessary
for the ungrateful.
Mud Sweat Fear.
"

Truer words were never spoken. Thanks daddy.

Anyway... moving on from that... nuwishas_tale and

Anyway... moving on from that... <lj user="nuwishas_tale"> and <lj_user="greenwytch"> came over at about 1 and things were grand. Massive pile of presents under the tree (due to having 6 people with considerable incomes), my parents' cats being crazy and attention seeking, and the manditory playing of chrismas carols in Danish. I'd just like to point out that many languages, such as latin, are beautiful to listen to especially when sung. To get an idea of what christmas carols in Danish sound like, try sticking your tongue out and singing "Jingle Bells".

Oh, yes, I also had by hair cut. A whole lot, because I had a whole lot of split ends. Still getting used to it. Jye hasn't broken up with me over it, so I suppose it's all okay.

Any way, dinner was traditional (for Danes) and Jye was a trooper but wouldn't eat the picked herrings. I like them. Then we howed into the massive pile of presents. I got a steam gun (to destroy my enemies!) and a digital camera (woo! Expect me to demand the services of you budding models out there). Stayed up late, had a fitful night's sleep, and woke up to find that Santa had come! Yay!

Anyway, the joy of christmas morning didn't last too long because Jye and I had to leave at 7.30 to get to Spencer st station by 9.15 to catch a train to Bendigo (to be followed by a 15-20 min car ride to Rave'nswood) for Jye's family's christmas. Exhausted, we arrived in time for presents and lunch, followed by more apping than I had right to, looking at Jye's parents' sheep (SHEEP!), dinner and more sleep.

Early wake up again, then off to the cinema to stand in line for.... well, you all know what movie it was. No spoilers, I promise. It was in my opinion better than tTT, but most of it was taken up by huge battle scenes (never a real favourite of mine to watch over and over).

Anyway, long car ride home, followed by seeing my Bunyip, then a brief jaunt into the city to take advantage of the boxing day sales. Spent more than I wanted to, but what can you do. :) </lj-cut>

And that, my dears, was my christmas.
