Sleep Deprivation Theatre

Hey kids.

I've decided that I'm going to have two PhD parties; the first when I hand the thesis in for review, and the second if/when it gets accepted. You will all buy me drinks (NO tequilla), and everybody will be required to call me 'doctor' for the entire evening.

Really, I don't ask for much.

I ran into vorex today, and we bonded in that only way people seem to do these days - we ate lunch and spent money on entertainment items.

AND! I have to thank bonesinger for one of the most refreshingly honest descriptions of me I've had in a long time. Thanks!

Does anybody know a good seamstress who knows a thing or two about gowns and corsetry?

And does anybody know what it costs to change your name via deed poll these days?

Sorry; I'm a bit random today.

Fees

The application fee for registration of a change of name is AUD$41.00. If a certificate is required, an additional fee of AUD$17.50 is payable.

I know a leeetle bit about gowns/corsetry. Enough to make my own wedding dress anyway.
Are you looking for answers to questions or someone to do the sewing for you? (I don't think I could do that)

Mostly, I need someone to look at thre sketches I've made and a) tell me if it's doable (which it should be - fairly simplistic, elegant affair with sleek lines and such), b) how much fabic I will need (especially for the train, which will need to be of a fabric that needs to be ordered from Scotland), and c) if they can do the making of the dress.

My brother's wedding, you see.

Ah, well I couldn't be held responsible for amounts of fabric - especially if they're coming all the way from the other side of the planet.(!) My "expertise" is based on adjusting existing patterns, not working from scratch. I'd love to see the sketches though :-)
Good luck finding a qualified professional.
Oh, and allow lots of time for the execution. And have an emergency back-up dress.

There's a girl at my work who makes clothes for herself and others, does repairs, gives quotes, makes wedding dresses. She seems to know her stuff.

I'll ask for her contact details to pass on to you, can I have yours to give to her? I anticipate that she'll want to be paid for whatever time she spends looking at your designs and whatnot.

Well, of course she would want to be paid. No problem there.

I can be emailed at celrynnya at gmail dot com.

Thanks!

One idea I really wanted to do, but couldn't be bothered after all the hassle Swinny put me through after submission, was to burn my thesis in effigy. Take a ream of paper, wrapped in a similar binding and burn the bastard. That really appealed to me.

How long 'till submission?

We can have endless fun doing the "Doctor?" "Doctor." sketch together.

Mmmmmmm lit review....tasty.

"How long" is always a funny question... I've just finished my third year, but I didn't have a scholarship for the first year, then I wrangled a three year scholarship. So, theoretically I have another year of funding, after which I can apply for a 6 month extension to my funding.

I'd really like to say just one more year, but I'm not sure that it would be accurate to.

The other question that begs blunt objects to temples is "Have you submitted yet?", especially when it's asked by everyone you haven't seen in a couple of weeks.

I spent three years claiming I had only three months of writing left. I took a lot of shit for that but people didn't realise that it was always accurate! The analysis kept ballooning as I realised more and more implications, and went back and did extra little experiments on little points which then had further implications. Because of the area I was in, everything I did was filling knowledge-void and well, nature abhors a vacuum!

My first year was unfunded and without scholarship too, so I know where you are coming from. Don't make my mistake and try to write-up while working a full-time job because the money has run-out.

[snip] I deleted about 45 minutes of solid typing here. I had described the pain and suffering that I went through to actually get my thesis through the university bureaucracy and to the examiners but I cut it out. I have it as a text file if you are interested.

When it came to parties I was just too relieved and drained to act upon it. I think I smiled a bit. I was in a foreign country and had few friends where I was. Most of them had children so a party-party was out of the question.

Sorry about the long post,
