I must admit that I'm a little concerned by this. Given the original is nearly 25 years old and the people who are the age of the original target audience have probably never seen (or even heard of) the original it's a bit of a screaming cash in rather than a desire to create an original story.

Henson must be on high rotation spin cycle by now.

i'm worried too, but more because i fear the beauty of the original film, which was the absolute unique nature of every puppet character, will be lost with the temptation to use CG. i've often said that were the original made today it would probably contain 5 individual skeksis and a glom of CG skeksis who are all more or less the same, instead of the 12 completely individual one's they did have.
i don't think they have to worry about audiences, I know i'd take my neice (4) which is what age i was when i saw the original. The generation that fell in love with it will take their children and any other small children they know. cult media is like that.

all i can say is they HAVE to get it right, cos if it's wrong, it would be SOOOOO wrong.

I am comforted on this front by the Henson corp input into Farscape. There was a lot of highly individualised puppetry used in the series alongside CG with incredible results, forever putting rest to the Star Trek rule that states all aliens must be humanoid with the same dicky haircut, matching outfits and a small piece of rubber distorting one of the features on their face. It seems to me that they will be/have been extending the work Jim began with the Storyteller series.
