Smoke and mirrors

I can't sleep because I've had the windows open to catch the cool change, and the strong winds are thick with the smell of distant smoke. Smoke is unsettling, and the body knows better than to sleep when it is around. And it smells bad, and makes me feel ill. The worst part is that I'm not sure where exactly the smoke is coming from. The news sites aren't being updated, and I've missed the late news on TV. From what I can smell, it's a bad fire, and I don't think it's eucalyptus-based.

Tomorrow I will have smoke-induced coughing.

Sigh.

You're not the only one who can't sleep at the moment...

When I left work in the afternoon, there was a smoky haze across the eastern suburbs. Couldn't tell where it had come from, but it blanketed most of the area. For a change, the air was a bit clearer when I got back in to the city ;)

Aha - it's apparently smoke drift from further out.

There are some pretty serious fires in the west, east and northeast at the moment, and most of the state is covered in smoke.

Plus two (probable) arsons in Sunshine yesterday, and another in Sandringham - both of which are much closer in.
