Who is taking who for a fool

Perhaps it is just me, but the following seems like a complete joke;

I mean, aren't they just saying that people are getting fatter? Are they trying to come up with a new buzz phrase to get people to watch their weight, because 'obesity' wasn't scarey enough? You know, like the dangerous chemical hyrogen dioxide? The one that is LETHAL for inhalation at 4g/kg?

Which raises the question, did the reporter realise that they were being taken for a fool?

"Suggestions include introducing a junk food tax based on the amount of fat and sugar in food, restrictions on fast food advertisements and better urban planning.

"If we recommend physical activity and having people walk to the shop but we don't have footpaths, and people take their lives into their hands trying to walk to the shop, or we don't have local shops ... we are providing a real disincentive for people to be active," Prof Barter said."

man! thats so annoying! sif u need to justify better urban planningg just cause a few people have pot guts! cmon guys, urban design is something we should have always had in mind!! i cant believe they are comparing it to cholera, aids etc... are we so blind to the outside world?? these things are still killing people! we're just being lazy n fat, not afflicted by a dangerous syndrome.

sorry, end rant.

I thought an 'epidemic' was something that you could 'catch' from other people (like bacteria or a virus or something....), it feels like they're just using this word to make us all feel comfortable and happy that its not our fault we're fat, its those nasty obesity germs that are gonna get us.
