Working from home

I'm doing some writing at home today, because I am a little sick and feel rather achey. I'd rather not leave the house if I don't have to.

In other news, at a rough calculation here is my current work count for the tesis:

Zokutou word meterZokutou word meter
17,653 / 100,000
(17.7%)

What I'd ideally like is a modified version of the NaNo word counter thingies to keep track of my progress, and to keep me inspired and keen to keep going. I kid you not, those NaNo word tickers kept me going more than anything else - hopefully the same principle will work with the thesis...

:) Actually, Caitlin is planning more a "tell me what sessions, tell me what games, and we'll arrange things", which AON can't do, so...

....so you'll have to write a genetic algorithm or simulated annealing routine to be able to optimise all that stuff, right?

Yeah, that IS what we call a randomiser when the laity are listening, isn't it?

No! Not at all! GA's and SA are tools used in Complex Systems Science for optimising problems that exist in hyperdimensional property spaces! Nothing random about it! Errr.....look; Pareto Fronts! E-Machines! Graph Theory! The Goodyear Blimp! *runs*

I had fun in 3rd year AI by combining GA and SA. Roboflib! For all your prisoner's dilemma solving needs! Look for it in all good stores!

The problem I found with trying to algorithmically solve Prisoners Dilemmas was that you couldn't factor in an incentive for the "prisoners" sharing a laugh and a drink down the pub after the dilemma was solved.

The word your looking for is "tetra-neutron."

Watch it.... I think I did a bloody magnificent job of taking chairman_loke's quasi-pseudo-science bullshit and making it sound plausible to anyone with highschool science.

Mt lj has been taken over by nerds.

Who would have thunk it?

Cause and effect.

Effect: "My LJ has been taken over by nerds"
Cause : You don't know anyone but nerds

Didn't we have this discussion? :) If you can find a way to encode "I don't want to play with them in Delta Green because they go on and on about guns, but they are fine in Exalted" or "I want to play with them because I'm hitting on them", then go crazy ;)

Can't we just use a variant on Graph theory and rank the connection by the purported realtionship?

I guess its less representing it as getting people to express it clearly and easily. And without it starting fights. :)

Or we could write it so that a GM we dislike would get the Party From Hell...

Gods, I hadn't even thought of including the GMs in the mix :)

Don't laugh - just about every con I run a game at I get the Party From Hell (TM). Seriously. It's creepy.

The same people, or a new collection?
