The highlight of my day yesterday: a Nobel Prize winner said hello to me in a hallway.

Well, they put their pants on same as everyone else, you know - right leg, middle leg, then left leg. After you've won your Nobel prizes, you still have to come home and make your toasted cheese sandwiches with phosphorus and capers, and stir your β-D-fructofuranosyl α-D-glucopyranoside into your coffee like anyone else.

Actually, it was an oddly Benny Hill moment. The nice old Nobel Prize winner stopping to say hello to the two blonde PhD students whose hands were full of posters, thus leaving them undefended... I was expecting sexy nurses to leap out from somewhere.

It was all a bit surreal.

I can't think of any more wacky scientific jokes about arse-pinching.

On the plus side, I think about half your japanese co-conference-presenters are from Osaka University, which was two stations away from where I worked. It is indeed a very small world. Nattsukashi :)
