Creative waves

I've had this idea for a while, but I've finally decided to do something about it. What I'd like to do is make a photographic version of the tarot. To do this, I'll need to borrow a decent camera and a whole bunch of willing participents. I'm thinking about just trying to do the major arcana for starters, and seeing how it goes.

If I could get a camera and some models (with some planning before hand) I think I should probably be able to do a decent job within a few hours of shooting.

Any volunteers?

Decent Camera
I have a decent Nikon F80 SLR, but I'm a bit paranoid about other people using it. If you broke it, it's worth about $1000 (actually if you broke it, it's worth about $0 - but you know what I mean). Not to mention that it needs to be looked after properly as well. So, you can borrow it, but I'd probably want to be there to make sure it was treated with care. Also, if you wanted to do any of the shots at night, I don't have a tripod for it at the moment. Other than that, it is a film camera, not digital - so the photos should technically be better, but the format may not be to your liking.

Well, sounds like an interesting idea you have there as well, and I have been thinking about ways of being creative photographically recently. Any other good ideas floating in that skull of yours?

Re: Decent Camera
Hmmm... I'm a little nervous around breakable expensive things... but thanks for the offer. As for other creative ideas, I'm jam-packed-full of them. What kind of ideas would you like?

Re: Decent Camera
Well, I could come along as your photographer - you get the people all posed, I take the photos. I was more thinking that film was the wrong sort of media, as it's harder to get it printed onto something that will handle well.

Ideas, I was just trying to think of something creative to do with photography, that has not been done terribly often before. A live-action tarot just sort of stood out as something not many people have done, so I'd be happy to take photos for you. Or if you had any other thing like this in mind, too...

Is there a "fat ugly bearded man" in the Tarot?

If there is, then I volunteer.

How would you feel about something like the Hermit or the Heirophant?

And by the way, you're not ugly. So there, nyer.

Photographic Tarot eh? I'm interested if you can find some spot for me. I'm sure there's someone like the Fool in most Tarot decks aren't there? That might be me.....

Jun. 26th, 2003 08:14 pm (UTC)
I have an idea for someone else as the Fool, if that person is interested... But you would be an interesting pick. I'll think about what role I'd like you in - you have a whole lot of 'character' about you, so I'd want to get it right...

Hmmm...turn down on opportunity to be on film? I think not!

If you can find a spot for me, Major Arcana or no, I'm up for it.

Sure can! I'll think hard about it, but I definitely want you there if you are up for it.

models! we all love models!

Think about it, I'm giving you all a chance to say, "Me? I'm a model, actually..."

Sadly my camera is idiosyncratic and difficult to use, but I can help with props if'n you need 'em.
Jun. 29th, 2003 04:58 pm (UTC)
If by props you mean modeling for me, then yes. ;)

I actually meant if you needed random occulty stuff as props for the photos, I have a lot of it lying around. I'm sure you have a whole bundle of weapons clattering about the place, but I could help with a few of those as well if you needed.

As for modelling, I'm honoured you'd ask, but it'd depend on which archetype. I'm a bit suspicious of the Tarot - it and I have never got along together ('cept for Crowley's Thoth deck - we seem to hit it off just fine). So, call me pointlessly superstitious, but I'm not sure at the moment if I'd feel comfortable, unless it was one of the cards I could identify with.
Are you going to appear on any of the cards yourself? Or would that bias the deck too much for you?
Jun. 30th, 2003 05:14 pm (UTC)
Well, it's probably not going to be a deck to actually use, more a work of art. I say this because I too and highly superstitious, and I have issues with most decks I come across (or, rather, they have issues with me).

As for chosing models for each card... well, I'd have to choose a card that I feel they suit, but I will be discussing it with them, not telling them "you WILL be this card, or you won't be in any". If someone feels uncomfortable about a particular archetype, there's no way I'm going to force them. On the other hand, seven people trying to be the Fool will be a little difficult to resolve. We should talk - I have a few things in mind for you, but we'll have to see.

As for me... as this (probably) isn't going to be a deck to actually 'use', I wouldn't feel I was biasing it if I posed. What would bias it more would be the fact I was 'constructing' it, putting my personal vision and undertones into the cards - not necessarily the best thing to do if I don't want to bias them.

And I have been thinking a little about being in the deck... but we'll see. I have a card in mind, but I want to wait and see what other people show interest first.

Happy to model, also have camera...
Jun. 29th, 2003 04:59 pm (UTC)
Yay for both!

I have this plan of having a few cameras/camera people, so that I can choose from the best snaps. So, you will be welcome in every capacity.

me too!
anything you'd like me to be, my sweet?
Jun. 29th, 2003 05:00 pm (UTC)
Re: me too!
I have plans for you, my dear... big plans....
Jun. 30th, 2003 01:46 am (UTC)
Bleek. And kitling has offered my digital camera for use, which is cool, except that I'll need it when I finally make it to frou_frou's art session (which won't be this coming Sunday, but probably the one a fortnight from this Sunday, so the 20th)...

Oh, and "Bleek" should be interpreted as, "err, I volunteer as a subject, if you want, with the caveat that I'm pretty busy at the moment, so planning a long way in advance with scheduling would be good."
Jun. 30th, 2003 05:16 pm (UTC)
Yay! It won't be for a little while yet - still much planning that needs to be done, especially since I'm going to have a fairly large group of very busy people coming together.

But I'd be happy for you to be a model for me, and for the possible loan of a camera.
